Margaret "Maggi" Coplin, M.D.
Biography
Margaret "Maggi" Coplin, M.D., cares for patients at Lake Regional Cancer Center.
Dr. Coplin specializes in medical oncology. She cares for patients with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma and other cancers.
Dr. Coplin approaches patient care as a partnership and said she always keeps patients’ goals at the forefront of treatment planning.
“I get to know my patients and what’s important to them so we can maintain their priorities as we treat their cancer,” she said. “I want them to know they are in control. My job is to let them know their options and help them make decisions.”
Dr. Coplin said she was drawn to cancer care because of personal experiences.
“There’s a lot of cancer in my family,” she said. “I think cancer patients know what’s important in life, and I enjoy being with them.”
Along with her cancer expertise, Dr. Coplin has a strong background in nutrition. Before earning her medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine, she earned a Master of Science in human nutrition and nutritional biology from Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology oncology, and seven years later she completed a fellowship in integrative medicine. Integrative medicine emphasizes health promotion and prevention of illness along with treatment of disease.
“I like integrative medicine because it takes account of the whole person and all factors that influence health, wellness and disease,” Dr. Coplin said. “I see patients benefit from integrative approaches — such as pairing good nutrition with medicine.”
Dr. Coplin joined Lake Regional in 2018.
