Justin Shatto, M.D.

Justin Shatto, M.D., cares for patients at Lake Regional General Surgery and at Lake Regional Wound Healing Center.

Dr. Shatto knew he wanted to be a surgeon before he applied to medical school.

"Surgery was my calling," he said. "I liked the idea of using my hands to improve others' quality of life."

Dr. Shatto specializes in various open and laparoscopic surgical procedures and is especially interested in intra-abdominal surgery, particularly hernia and colon surgery. He also performs hernia repairs and gallbladder removals using the da Vinci X robotic surgery system.

Dr. Shatto also specializes in wound healing. He became affiliated with Lake Regional's Wound Healing Center because he saw a need for this specialized care.

"A lot of times, it's a very difficult process to deal with a wound, and there's not always available care," he said. "The most rewarding part of the job is that a lot of patients with chronic wounds have given up hope that their wound will be healed, and when we are able to heal them and have success, then we enjoy that with the patient."

Dr. Shatto joined Lake Regional in 2012.
