Charles Canver, M.D., FACS
Biography
Charles Canver, M.D., FACS, cares for patients at Lake Regional Heart and Vascular. Dr. Canver is board-certified in cardiovascular/thoracic surgery, general surgery and surgical critical care.
“As a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, my clinical work focuses on all aspects of surgical treatment of heart, vascular and thoracic disorders,” Dr. Canver said. “I wanted to be a physician since age 5, and I believe being a surgeon is the highest honor. It is a privilege to serve individuals and to help improve their health and well-being.”
Dr. Canver obtained his medical degree in Turkey and then completed general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies at State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo School of Medicine. During his academic career, Dr. Canver worked as a faculty member and a board-certified cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at University at Buffalo-affiliated hospitals; Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.; University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics in Madison, Wis.; Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y.; King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Near East University Hospital in Nicosia, Cyprus. In 2008, he received a health care MBA degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Canver is currently a Fellow of American College of Surgeons, American College of Cardiology and American College of Chest Physicians.
In his most recent post before joining Lake Regional in 2016, Dr. Canver served as a cardiovascular/thoracic surgeon and a surgical faculty member within the Department of Surgery at Duke University Health and Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, N.C.
