Candace Malson, DNP, R.N., ANP-BC
Candace Malson, DNP, R.N., ANP-BC, cares for patients of all ages at Lake Regional Clinic - Laurie.
As a nurse practitioner with a doctorate in nursing practice, Malson has advanced education and clinical training and can provide preventive and acute health care services for patients of all ages.
Throughout her career, Malson has taken a special interest in caring for older adults, and in 2018, she was chosen as a VA Geriatric Scholar and attended the 35th UCLA Intensive Course in Geriatric Medicine.
“I’ve always had good relationships with mature adults,” she said. “It probably goes back to how I was raised. My parents taught me to respect and be kind to my elders.”
Malson also has a special interest in managing lung conditions, including COPD and interstitial lung disease.
She said her work is rewarding because she helps people solve problems.
“I believe in collaborative care,” she said. “That means I give my patients the best information I have, and then I outline options for their care and ask them what sounds best to them. Knowledge is power, and I believe in empowered patients.”
Although Malson always had an interest in health care, she did not begin nursing school until her mid-30s, when she was newly widowed and had three children in junior high.
“I wanted to get more education and do more with my life,” she said. “I decided to follow nursing when I saw all of the options it provided.”
Before coming to Lake Regional in 2019, Malson cared for patients at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
