Friday, October 5, 2018

Lake Regional Health System welcomes Ryan Morris, D.O., and Eric Varboncouer, M.D., to its team of orthopedic surgeons.

Drs. Morris and Varboncouer provide surgical and nonsurgical repair of broken bones and torn ligaments and cartilage. They also treat osteoarthritis and repetitive use injuries. Common procedures include arthroscopic (minimally invasive) surgery to repair joints and total joint replacement surgery, including knees, hips and shoulders.

“We are pleased to welcome Drs. Morris and Varboncouer to Lake Regional Orthopedics,” said John Appleby, director of Lake Regional Orthopedic Services. “We are committed to providing mid-Missourians excellent orthopedics care, and these two doctors will help us expand our offerings and serve more patients.”

Dr. Morris earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Michigan State University, Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. He also completed a sports medicine fellowship at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

He encourages his patients to ask questions and to share their goals for treatment.

“I strive to personalize my treatment,” he said. “Creating the right care plan requires understanding the patients’ expectations. After exhausting non-operative treatment, if surgery is elected to obtain their goals, we utilize shared decision making to develop the best treatment plan for an accelerated rehabilitation and optimal outcome.”

Dr. Varboncouer completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois. He also completed a shoulder surgery fellowship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Varboncouer said he was drawn to orthopedics because he wanted to focus on fixing, not just managing, health problems.

“Through surgery, we often can immediately improve someone’s quality of life,” he said. “I want patients to be fully informed in regards to their conditions and their treatment options. They need to be comfortable, and I think they’ll find I’m very approachable and willing to answer their questions.”

Drs. Morris and Varboncouer join Scott Hofer, D.O., at Lake Regional Orthopedics – Osage Beach. Jeff Jones, D.O., continues to care for patients at Lake Regional Orthopedics – Camdenton. Along with these four orthopedic surgeons, Lake Regional’s orthopedics team also includes a foot and ankle surgeon, Cody Fox, DPM, FACFAS, and a physician assistant, Brian Swanson, PA-C.
