Lake Regional Health System is pleased to announce that Kaitlen Baker, M.D., has joined its hospitalist team. Hospitalists provide care to patients while they are in the hospital and help arrange the care they will need after going home.

“Dr. Baker understands hospitalized patients and their families have many concerns, and she puts them at ease,” said Timmy Colvin, manager of Lake Regional’s Hospitalist program. “We are thankful she will be caring for our patients at Lake Regional Health System.”

Originally from a rural area near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dr. Baker said seeing a need for doctors motivated her to pursue medical school.

“Seeing that people didn’t have access to medical care — or only limited options — helped me realize there was a small role I could fill to help people,” she said. “My grandma also was a big motivation. She has passed now, but she believed I would grow up to help someone else’s mom and grandma one day.”

Dr. Baker earned her medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine in Bridgetown, Barbados. She completed her residency in internal medicine at LewisGale Medical Center in Roanoke, Virginia.

In caring for hospitalized patients, Dr. Baker said open communication is critical to good care.

“If we inform patients and their families about their care and why something is happening, it helps alleviate a lot of stress,” she said.

Dr. Baker and her husband, Richie, live in Lake Ozark with their three dogs. In her free time, she enjoys hosting friends and family, baking, reading, and spending time in and on the water.

Lake Regional Health System has more than 100 physicians and nurse practitioners who offer primary and specialty care for lake-area residents and visitors. For more information or to download a provider directory, visit lakeregional.com/physicians.
