Lake Regional Health System welcomes Jacob Quick, M.D., FACS, to Lake Regional General Surgery. Board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. Quick provides a broad range of surgical treatments, ranging from trauma surgery to colon and biliary tract surgery. He also performs complex abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair using traditional and minimally invasive techniques.

“Dr. Quick is a skilled surgeon with decades of experience treating trauma and life-threatening conditions,” said Chase Walker, manager of Lake Regional General Surgery. “He comes to Lake Regional from the University of Missouri, where in addition to providing surgical care, he has been a tenured associate professor who has trained more than 1,000 medical students and earned numerous teaching awards. We are grateful to have him caring for our patients.”

Dr. Quick follows the simple goal of treating each patient like family.

“Undergoing surgery — any surgery — is a big deal, and I find that working through that process together improves patient understanding and involvement,” he said. “I try to determine patient’s end goals first. This sets the stage for expectations in recovery and for the rest of their lives.”

With goals set, Dr. Quick then discusses the problem without the medical jargon.

“I draw a lot of pictures of anatomy and really strive to achieve patient understanding,” Dr. Quick said. “We’re in this together, and it is crucial to clearly communicate with patients.”

In addition to his experience in patient care, Dr. Quick has served as program director for the MU School of Medicine’s general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship programs. He currently serves as president of the Missouri chapter of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. He also has published nine books, along with more than 50 other publications.

A School of the Osage graduate, Dr. Quick met his wife, Angie, while they were graduate students at the University of Missouri. She is a veterinarian. They have two children active in sports, and their family loves to camp, hike, fish and spend time on the lake.

Dr. Quick joins John Patton, D.O., FACOS, and Justin Shatto, M.D., at Lake Regional General Surgery. The clinic phone number is 573.302.2299. Visit lakeregional.com/surgery to learn more about general surgery services.
