Dr. Thomsen is board certified in family medicine and cares for patients of all ages. He provides primary care services, including preventive care and chronic disease management.
"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Thomsen to our team of providers in Eldon," said Michael Burcham, vice president of Lake Regional Physician Practices. "This is an exciting time for our Eldon clinic, as we near the completion of our two-story addition and prepare to expand our services to include several specialists. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Thomsen has an important role in increasing access to primary care for residents of Eldon and surrounding communities. "
Dr. Thomsen has experience in various medical settings, including family medicine, occupational medicine and urgent care. Most recently, he spent five years with Central Ozarks Medical Center in Osage Beach.
"I have referred patients to Lake Regional specialists for years, and I appreciate the excellent quality of care in all departments and specialties," Dr. Thomsen said. "Now, I'm pleased to join the Lake Regional team."
Family medicine is rewarding, he said, because he likes collaborating with patients and specialists to improve patients' health.
"I always listen first and wait to ask questions," Dr. Thomsen said. "I like to consider several angles before narrowing down the options to a solution. Then, I try to enlist the patient's buy-in. I encourage them to help take ownership of the problem, and I tell them we are here to help them achieve a positive outcome."
Dr. Thomsen enjoys all aspects of family medicine and has special interest in sports medicine, orthopedic injuries, dermatology, anxiety and depression.
Dr. Thomsen earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha and completed a residency in family medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. His honors include being a diplomat in both the American Board of Family Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He also is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Originally from Omaha, Neb., Dr. Thomsen practiced for several years in southwest Kansas City before moving to mid-Missouri in 2011. He and his wife, Carla Guiher, have three children and three grandsons. In his free time, Dr. Thomsen enjoys running, swimming, softball, basketball and golf. He and Carla also have three golden retrievers they train, and he likes practicing basketball and baseball with his grandsons.
