Lake Regional Health System honored its hospital volunteers during the annual Auxiliary luncheon, held April 3.
At the luncheon, the volunteers were recognized for contributing a total of more than 59,000 service hours to the hospital in 2016. Individuals also were recognized for total hours contributed to the hospital throughout their volunteer service. Lifetime Achievement awards were given to Ellie Betta, Jane Delaney, Peggy Dodd, Bob Fox and Linda Frymyer, each of whom have volunteered more than 5,000 hours. Bert Dampier also was recognized for volunteering more than 5,000 hours, and Pat Miller and Dorothy Scrocco were each recognized for volunteering more than 7,000 hours.
"We thank every one of our volunteers for giving generously of their time to support Lake Regional in providing exceptional health care to our community," said Terri Hall, director of Fund Development and Auxiliary Services at Lake Regional. "Our volunteers are enthusiastic about giving back and helping others in need."
During the luncheon, Auxiliary President Betty Coleman presented a check for $83,000 to Lake Regional Health System CEO Michael E. Henze on behalf of the Auxiliary. The funds were raised through sales at Lake Regional's gift shops, as well as through various fundraising events.
"Volunteers are a critically important asset to Lake Regional and the community," Henze said. "Our patients and staff benefit daily from the support of this caring group of dedicated individuals."
Started in 1977, the Lake Regional Hospital Auxiliary now has 389 members of all ages. The volunteers are a diverse group comprised of retirees, doctors, active businessmen, high school students and other community members. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles that fit their own special talents and interests. They also assist staff with community events and host the Annual Hospital Ball. Held each fall, the ball is one of the hospital's largest fundraisers.
