Lake Regional Provides New Stroke Survivor Support Group

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Lake Regional Health System is starting a new support group for stroke survivors. Beginning Sept. 19, meetings will be at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the hospital’s third floor conference rooms.

“This monthly support group will help stroke survivors continue on the road to recovery,” said Crystal Lloyd, R.N., Lake Regional’s stroke coordinator. “It provides an opportunity for them to ask questions, share concerns and learn from fellow survivors.”

Participants will learn about such topics as exercising after stroke, managing depression and how caregivers can take care of themselves. The meeting format will vary. About half of the meetings each year will be open discussion, and about half will feature a guest speaker or activity.

All stroke survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend; survivors do not have to be Lake Regional patients to participate. For more information, call Crystal Lloyd at 573.302.2959.

Lake Regional hosts several other support groups, most of which focus on a health condition, such as cancer, heart disease and COPD. Find a full listing of support groups, as well as screenings, health talks and other events, at
