You’ve likely heard a lot about how various foods can increase or decrease the risk for cancer. But sorting through the information can seem overwhelming, and taking action, like mission impossible.
Get help at Nutrition and Cancer Prevention, a free one-hour health talk at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Lake Regional Hospital.
“Your nutrition habits have a powerful effect on your health,” said Lake Regional Clinical Dietitian Wendy Walker, MPH, R.D., L.D., CNSC, who will lead the health talk. “Come learn how to make nutrition choices that help protect against cancer.”
Topics will include the impact that body weight has on cancer risk, the benefits of eating a mostly plant-based diet, and which meats and cooking methods to limit. You’ll also learn strategies to help you meet nutrition recommendations. Attendees will be entered to win the highly reviewed, award-winning American Cancer Society New Healthy Eating Cookbook.
Lake Regional offers a variety of educational programming throughout the year, including health talks on arthritis, diabetes, heart attack and stroke. Several health fairs and screenings also are held annually throughout the lake area. For information on upcoming events, visit lakeregional.com/events.
