OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — All Lake Regional Pharmacy locations now offer a safe place for anyone to discard unused medications. Medication drop-off boxes have been installed inside the pharmacies in Camdenton, Eldon, Lake Ozark, Laurie and Osage Beach.
Lake Regional Pharmacy is the first pharmacy in the area to offer this important service, which helps protect the community.
“Unused medications are a hazard,” said Stacie Ling, manager of Lake Regional’s retail pharmacies. “It’s important to dispose of medications properly to ensure they don’t get into the wrong hands or harm the environment.”
Accepted items include:
- Prescription medications (controlled and non-controlled but no marijuana)
- Over-the-counter medications
- Liquids, pills, tablets and capsules
The receptacle is not to be used for:
- Batteries and medical devices
- Inhalers/aerosol cans
- Mercury-containing devices
- Liquid antineoplastic agents
Anyone can visit a Lake Regional Pharmacy during business hours to drop medications into the box.
“We hope people will remember our drop-off box when they have any unused medications in their cabinets — perhaps after a prescription change or after a surgery when they didn’t have to use all of the pain medication provided,” Ling said. “It’s a safe way to deal with a potential danger.”
Other local drop-off options include local sheriff departments and some police departments.
