Mental Health First Aid

Sometimes first aid isn’t a bandage or CPR or calling 911. Sometimes first aid is YOU.

You are more likely to encounter someone in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Learn how to help at the following Mental Health First Aid training events, presented by Lake Regional Health System, MU Extension and Compass Health.

Each of these eight-hour trainings teaches participants how to recognize signs of substance abuse and mental illness, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and disorders involving psychosis. Participants learn how to provide initial support and connect individuals to appropriate care.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens. Participants must be at least 16 years old.

Adult Mental Health First Aid is designed for employers, police officers, health care workers, first responders, faith leaders and other caring citizens. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

The cost for each training is $25 and includes lunch. Registration is required.
