After 52 years in nursing, Susan Andres, R.N., is retiring from Lake Regional Health System. The public is invited to celebrate her at a retirement reception from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, in the Cancer Center Conference Room.
“It has been a great honor to work alongside Susan,” said Marcy Maxwell, R.N., director of Lake Regional Cancer Center. “She has dedicated her career to mentoring employees and shaping our practices to ensure patients receive the best possible care. She is a positive force, who is thankful every day for her work and her team. Her legacy will be fondly remembered for many years to come.”
Andres has served at Lake Regional since its 1978 start, excepting just 18 months spent in Florida not long after Lake Regional opened. She spent her first 25 years with Lake Regional in obstetrics, caring for pregnant women and helping deliver babies. In 2004, she began working in the Lake Regional Cancer Center, where she educates patients and helps them manage the side effects of their treatments.
Asked to share some advice with new nurses, Andres had a quick answer.
“Enjoy the opportunity to work with patients, and strive to do your very best,” she said. “It’s so satisfying and rewarding.”
