Lake Regional invites seniors to Generation Rx: Safe Medication Practices for Better Health, presented by MU Extension at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Lake Regional Hospital. Amy Bartels, a human development and family science field specialist from MU Extension in Camden County, and Lake Regional Pharmacist Ashley Miller, PharmD, will present this free health talk.
Why is it important to teach older adults how to use medications safely? It’s true that prescription medications can help us live longer and healthier lives, but any medication has the potential to do harm — especially when misused. The misuse of prescription medications is one of our country’s most pressing public health problems, with adverse drug events being a significant issue for older adults.
This health talk will address simple ways to decrease the risk for adverse drug events; the safe storage and disposal of medications; and prescription drug misuse in our country. There also will be a time for participants to ask questions.
The class is free. Registration is required. Call MU Extension at 573.346.2644 to register and for more information.
Lake Regional offers a variety of health education throughout the year, including health talks on weight loss, mental health, heart attack and stroke. Several health fairs and screenings also are held annually throughout the lake area, and the hospital hosts a variety of support groups.
