Lake Regional Health System recently published "Currents: A Report to the Community." The annual report covers fiscal year 2017, which began May 2016 and ended April 2017.
According to the report, Lake Regional contributed more than $25.2 million to the community, including uncompensated care and free medical services. The total also includes $10.5 million for the unpaid cost of treating Medicare patients.
With more than 1,000 employees, Lake Regional Health System is one of the area's largest employers. During FY 2017, LRHS payroll totaled more than $72.4 million, and the system paid more than $4.7 million in payroll and unemployment taxes and real estate taxes.
According to Michael E. Henze, chief executive officer of Lake Regional Health System, fiscal year 2017 was, in many ways, a time to prepare for new things to come. Several construction projects were started to improve access to care, including the new Nichols Road roundabout and the expansion of Lake Regional Clinic – Eldon. In addition, Lake Regional purchased the surgery center on Nichols Road, now known as Lake Regional Diagnostic & Surgery Center, and configured the building for select outpatient services. Planning also progressed for a totally remodeled Outpatient Services department and a new Family Birth Center, with construction of both begun in August 2017.
Other highlights include the hospital earning re-accreditation from The Joint Commission and the transitioning to a new electronic medical record system, Meditech 6.1.
"These projects demonstrate to the community that Lake Regional is committed to ensuring our patients receive the best experience and the best care possible," Henze said in the report.
Lake Regional Hospital Auxiliary also works to support the health system's mission to provide exceptional health care. The group of 236 individuals volunteered a total of 53,721 hours and raised $83,000 to purchase equipment for the hospital in FY 2017. The Auxiliary also awarded $15,000 in scholarships to employees pursuing nursing careers.
The annual report is available online at www.lakeregional.com/reports. Copies of the report will be mailed to area residents with the hospital's fall issue of Thrive magazine. Additional copies are available at Lake Regional clinics in Camdenton, Eldon, Iberia, Lake Ozark, Laurie, Osage Beach and Macks Creek.
