Lake Regional Extends Suspension of Phase 3, Wellness Activities

Thursday, July 2, 2020

To help ensure the safety of patients and employees, Lake Regional Health System has indefinitely suspended Phase 3 Cardiac Rehab, Phase 3 Pulmonary Rehab and Wellness memberships, including water aerobics.

Lake Regional follows CDC guidance and the federal government’s Opening Up America Again plan to determine when to resume activities. Any community experiencing a rebound of COVID-19 cases or influenza-like illness should halt reopening activities until a downward trajectory is maintained.

“Seniors and individuals who have chronic conditions, such as heart and lung disease, are most at risk for severe illness from COVID-19,” said Jody Corpe, E.P., Lake Regional Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation manager. “At this time, the prevalence of influenza-like illnesses in our community indicates we must continue to be cautious.”

While unable to hold in-person sessions, Lake Regional is finding ways to connect virtually with patients.

“It is important for our patients to continue building their strength and endurance while at home,” Corpe said. “Providing classes on Facebook Live and our website allows us to support their recovery efforts even though they are not on-site.”

Members of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab team will lead low-impact workouts using Facebook Live at 2:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays of July 15, 22, and 29. To participate, visit facebook.com/lakeregional. In addition, a recorded workout video and downloadable workout guide are available at lakeregional.com/cardiacrehab. There is also a survey for patients to share their preferred way for connecting during this time.

“We want to emphasize that because Lake Regional continues to limit visitors to our facilities and take other precautions — such as screening all patients, staff and visitors, and requiring everyone to wear masks — patients can feel safe coming to Lake Regional for illnesses and emergencies,” Corpe said. “Please do not hesitate to seek the care you need from any Lake Regional clinics or our Emergency Department. We are here, ready to care for you.”
