Lake Regional Celebrates Cancer Survivor Day with Virtual Health Talk

When cancer treatment is finally over, what comes next?

Watch Lake Regional Oncologist and Hematologist Shahid Waheed, M.D., FACP, in the virtual health talk, “Life After Cancer,” for tips and resources to thrive. The health talk premieres on, at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 5, World Cancer Survivor Day.

Dr. Waheed covers how cancer survivors can gather helpful information, and he talks about important lifestyle changes they can take to support recovery. He also describes the mix of joy and uncertainty many cancer survivors feel and offers hope for overcoming negative thoughts and emotions.

“Counseling, family support and every sunrise will help,” he said.

Dr. Waheed is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He cares for patients with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma and other cancers. He has worked on bone marrow research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington. He also has performed stem cell transplants and worked on genetic and molecular research involved in treating cancer with immunotherapies and targeted drugs.
