Lake Regional Health System celebrates American Pharmacists Month in October to honor the invaluable services of its pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The celebration’s theme is “Essential Providers. Accessible Care.”
“Pharmacists serve a vital function to our communities,” said Tony Kauten, PharmD, Lake Regional Pharmacy Manager. “As an easily accessible health care provider, pharmacists help their communities with a variety of needs. In addition to preparing and dispersing medicines, pharmacists work to improve medication use and help patients manage chronic conditions.”
Pharmacists review medication lists to look for potentially dangerous drug interactions, and they look for duplications and for cheaper alternatives. Pharmacists also are responsible for patient education.
“Pharmacists make it easier for patients to stick with their treatment plans by helping them connect with important resources,” Kauten said. “At Lake Regional, our pharmacists take the time to listen to patient concerns by answering their questions and helping them overcome any challenges they may face in taking their prescriptions.”
Lake Regional employees 22 pharmacists and 22 pharmacy techs in its inpatient and retail pharmacies.
Lake Regional Pharmacy provides flu shots, both regular and high-dose, at each of its five locations. The shingles vaccination is also available at all locations.
