Lake Regional Health System is pleased to announce its new Family Birth Center opened May 24.
“Our patients know they can expect wonderful care from our doctors and nurses, and now they will receive that personalized care in the area’s newest birth center, designed for our patients’ comfort and safety,” said Mary Lou Gamm, nurse manager of Lake Regional Family Birth Center. “We are proud to welcome families to this beautiful new space.”
The new Family Birth Center offers a completely modern experience for expectant mothers, their newborns and their families. Mothers deliver in beautiful private suites with state-of-the-art safety features and comfortable furnishing for an overnight guest. Each suite is equipped for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care — which means mothers check into one room and are in that same room throughout their stays. Entries to the suites are angled for privacy, and special touches include soothing artwork, 55-inch flat-screen TVs and walk-in showers.
Birth experiences focus on families and the precious, intimate moments of welcoming a newborn. Lake Regional staff work with families before the big day to create personalized birth plans, which include details ranging from when visitors will be welcomed to pain management. After delivery, the care plan includes a quiet, private and peaceful “golden hour” after birth; immediate skin-to-skin snuggling for mothers and babies — including those delivered through C-section; and breast-feeding support that continues after mother and baby go home.
Mothers also can look forward to a complimentary celebration meal, a mini-fridge stocked with their selections and featured room service options.
To help parents and babies get the best start possible, Lake Regional offers three interactive classes for expectant families in two convenient locations: the new Family Birth Center and Lake Regional Clinic - Eldon. The classes cover how to make healthy choices during pregnancy, how to prepare for childbirth and the basics of breast-feeding. Learn more about them at www.lakeregional.com/newparents.

The new Family Birth Center is located inside the all-new Women’s and Children’s Unit on the hospital’s third floor. The unit, opening soon, includes a state-of-the-art obstetrical surgical suite for caesarean sections, a post-anesthesia care unit and private overnight rooms. Women’s services include treatments for pelvic disorders and care following such procedures as hysterectomies. Pediatric patients receive overnight care for such diagnoses as dehydration, RSV, asthma and appendicitis.
