Kevin Byrne, D.O., Named Lake Regional Physician of the Year

Kevin Byrne, D.O., has been named Lake Regional Health System's 2017 Physician of the Year. Dr. Byrne, a gastroenterologist at The Lake's Liver and Digestive Health Center, received the award at Lake Regional's annual Doctors' Day banquet, held March 30.

This annual award is determined by a committee comprised of Lake Regional staff, medical staff, administration and board members. The committee reviews nominations from employees, auxilians, board members and physicians.

"Nominees must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, a collaborative spirit and a positive attitude," said Michael E. Henze, CEO of Lake Regional Health System. "Dr. Bryne excels in each of these traits. He cares deeply for his patients and has earned respect from his fellow staff. We are pleased to recognize him for his exceptional service."

In addition to nominations, recipients also must receive positive feedback from patient satisfaction questionnaires and from others within the health system or community.

In his nominations, Dr. Byrne was commended for his professionalism, compassion and outstanding patient care.

"Dr. Byrne consistently treats every employee, physician and patient with kindness and respect," one nominator wrote. "Every patient of his I've cared for speaks very well of him."

Another wrote: "Dr. Byrne goes above and beyond for his patients. He takes the time to listen to their needs and makes sure he does everything he can for them."

Dr. Byrne began working at Lake Regional in 1995. He received his medical degree from the University Health Science College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo, and he completed his residencies in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Nebraska. He is a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Byrne's dedication to Lake Regional includes serving on the Board of Directors. He is currently the chair of the Public Relations Committee and a member of the Quality Committee. He is also a previous board chair.

Dr. Byrne lives in Osage Beach. He and his wife, Jeannie, have four children, Cori, Jacob, Jessie and Hannah.

In addition to the Physician of the Year, the following Lake Regional physicians were honored at the Doctors' Day Banquet for years of service: 30 years — Bobby Austin, DDS, dentistry; and Barton Warren, M.D., family medicine/obstetrics; 25 years — Samuel Brayfield, D.O., family medicine; and Ronald Massie, DDS, MAGD, dentistry; 15 years — Tony Koch, D.O., hospitalist, infectious disease; 10 years — Michael Wang, M.D., oncology; and 5 years — Rodger Campbell, M.D., emergency medicine; William Cravens, M.D, emergency medicine.; Lea Creekmur-O'Dell, D.O., emergency medicine; Patrick Greenwood, M.D., emergency medicine; Charles Judy, M.D., emergency medicine; Philip Mataverde, D.O., MPH, sleep medicine; Virginia Nagy, M.D., family medicine; Justin Shatto, M.D., general surgery; and Alan Wilson, M.D., emergency medicine.

The medical staff at Lake Regional Health System includes more than 100 providers who care for lake-area residents and visitors in the hospital and its seven primary care clinics, 19 specialty clinics and three Express Care locations. Lake Regional Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a three-time recipient of the Missouri Quality Award. Lake Regional Health System also operates rehab therapy clinics, retail pharmacies and home health services throughout the lake area.
