Lake Regional Health System will host Go Red For Women on Friday, Feb. 1, to support women’s heart health. The free, interactive session is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon in the hospital’s third floor conference rooms.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, responsible for about one in four female deaths, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Go Red For Women is an American Heart Association campaign to raise awareness of women’s heart disease and to encourage action to save lives.
“All too often, women don’t realize their hearts are in trouble,” said Jennifer Newman, R.N., BSN, cPT, Lake Regional’s director of Cardiac Services. “Go Red For Women provides key information to keep women and their loved ones in the know about heart health.”
Members of Lake Regional’s heart care team will present on the risk factors and symptoms of heart disease in women. They also will share exercise tips and guidance for heart-healthy nutrition.
Go Red For Women attendees who wear red will receive a free gift. All participants will receive a voucher for a free lipid profile test at Lake Regional’s annual Cardiovascular Screening on Saturday, Feb. 16. Attendees also will be registered to win a $50 gift card to Woods Supermarket.
