"We are pleased that Family Nurse Practitioner Laura Thompson has joined Lake Regional," said Michael Burcham, vice president of Lake Regional Physician Practices. "She is an experienced health care provider, and adding her to our Express Care team means lake-area residents and visitors will have increased access to walk-in appointments."
As a nurse practitioner, Thompson has advanced education and clinical training and can provide preventive and acute health care services for patients of all ages. Thompson has 21 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner and has provided care in family practice clinics, urgent care clinics and occupational health sites. She decided to become a nurse practitioner because she appreciated the focus nurse practitioner training places on promoting wellness first and foremost, with comprehensive, research-based medical care when needed.
"I engage patients in their own care by giving them viable options and allowing them to choose a treatment plan that works best for them," she said. "I also take time to help them establish goals for health improvement and disease prevention."
Originally from Wyoming, Thompson most recently worked for a company that sent her on different job assignments, including to Alaska, Idaho and Oregon.
Thompson and her husband, Robert Coffey, have eight daughters and one son, scattered from coast to coast completing school and raising families of their own. Traveling is a favorite family pastime.
"Each new area we explore brings us another adventure," Thompson said. "Our latest journeys include Costa Rica and Puerto Vallarta."
