Eric McQueary, D.O., has been named Lake Regional Health System’s 2020 Physician of the Year. Dr. McQueary, a urologist at Lake Regional, received the award on April 14.

The Physician of the Year award honors physicians who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, a collaborative spirit and a positive attitude. Every year, several Lake Regional physicians receive nominations for this honor.

“Dr. McQueary is highly respected by his patients and colleagues at Lake Regional, and is known for his dedication and care for his patients,” said Lake Regional CEO Dane W. Henry, FACHE. “We are pleased to award him with Physician of the Year, as it is very well deserved.”

Nominations come from Lake Regional employees, auxiliary members, board members and physicians. Recipients also must receive positive feedback from patient satisfaction questionnaires and from others within the health system or community. A committee of Lake Regional staff, medical staff, administration and board members chooses the honoree.

In his nominations, Dr. McQueary was commended for his patient satisfaction, incredible bedside manner, leadership and dedication.

“Dr. McQueary is a gem,” one nominator wrote. “We appreciate him so much in the outpatient department. Dr. McQueary maintains a high level of integrity and genuine interest in his patients lives. He is very approachable for questions and concerns, and is always willing to educate the staff when needed. His patients love him. We are very blessed to have Dr. McQueary here at Lake Regional.”

“Dr. McQueary is the most committed physician I have ever met,” another nominator wrote. “He goes above and beyond for every one of his patients and coworkers. He is always willing to see patients, even if his schedule is full. He is always putting his patients first. He is not only a good doctor, but a good person, as well.”

Dr. McQueary completed medical school at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. He completed his residency in the Division of Urological Surgery at Michigan State University and St. John Providence Health System in Detroit, and began working at Lake Regional in 2018.

Before entering medical school, he served six years in the Alaskan Air National Guard with deployments to Qatar and Kosovo. Dr. McQueary also has taken medical mission trips to the Philippines and Haiti.

Dr. McQueary and his wife, Kendra, have four daughters.
