Lake Regional Health System’s Melissa Hunter, R.N., MSN, has been named senior vice president of Clinical Services and chief nursing officer. She moves into the position following the retirement of Patti Muxlow, who served at Lake Regional for 29 years.

In her new role, Hunter will oversee the hospital’s clinical areas, including the Emergency Department; Family Birth Center; the Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical, Skilled Nursing and Stepdown units;  Outpatient Services; and Surgery. In addition, she will supervise Palliative Care, Home Health, Hospice and House Supervisors, for a total of 331 employees.

“We are pleased to promote Melissa to this senior leadership role,” said Michael E. Henze, CEO of Lake Regional Health System. “She has been with Lake Regional for her entire career, advancing steadily to this point. Melissa is focused on patient-centered care and evidence-based nursing practices, and she has enhanced our organizational focus on increasing patient satisfaction.”

Hunter joined Lake Regional in 1997 as a patient care technician in the Emergency Department. She also worked as a registered nurse on a medical/surgical floor, in the Emergency Department as a staff nurse and charge nurse, and as a house supervisor before being named the Emergency Department manager in 2004. In 2014, she was named director of nursing and began overseeing the hospital’s nursing units and nursing administration.

Hunter attended Central Methodist University, where she received associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing before earning a master’s degree in nursing in 2013.

Hunter and her husband, JD, have two sons, Zachary and Tyler. They live in Osage Beach.

Lake Regional Health System provides comprehensive health care services to the residents and visitors of the lake area. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a three-time recipient of the Missouri Quality Award. Lake Regional also operates primary care, walk-in care and specialty care clinics; rehab therapy sites; retail pharmacies; and home health services throughout the lake area.
