Lake Regional Health System Names Beacon Recipients

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

Lake Regional Health System is pleased to announce the 2018 Beacon Award winners. The recipients — Jon Chaffin, R.N.; Angel Frisbie, R.N.; Melissa Larocque, Lana Singer, R.N.; and Patti Swanson, MLT — represent the Lake Regional values of clinical excellence, patient-centered care, integrity, service excellence and commitment to community. Beacon Award recipients are nominated anonymously by their peers and will be recognized at Lake Regional’s annual Service Recognition luncheon May 15.

Jon Chaffin, R.N., winner of the Beacon of Clinical Excellence, is a registered nurse in Lake Regional’s Emergency Department. He was commended for providing health care that is evidence-based, resulting in quality outcomes. Chaffin is from Lebanon, Missouri.

“Jon continuously seeks out best practices through evidence-based research to improve a process,” one peer wrote.

Examples of his commitment to clinical excellence include serving as an instructor for an Emergency Department skills lab this spring. He researched best practices for providing emergency fluids when intravenous access is not possible. He then trained all Emergency Department nurses to follow a new procedure. In addition, Chaffin completed Lake Regional’s New & Future Leaders program. For his capstone project, he built an order set for nurses to use on trauma patients. This order set is now being used in the Emergency Department to improve patient outcomes.

Angel Frisbie, R.N., winner of the Beacon of Patient-Centered Care, serves as a registered nurse in Lake Regional Cancer Center. She was commended for striving to meet and exceed patients’ requirements, ensuring their safety and always seeking what is best for Lake Regional’s patients. Frisbie is from Brumley, Missouri.

“Angel always ensures the patient’s voice is heard,” one peer wrote. “It is of utmost important that patients identify their health care goals throughout their cancer journey. Angel continuously facilitates conversations with patients to help meet this need. She is never too busy to listen.”

“Angel is a very selfless nurse,” another peer wrote. “She can see the good in even the most difficult, challenging patients. She is always trying to see things from the patient’s perspective. This gives her a heart of wisdom and eyes of grace.”

Melissa Larocque, winner of the Beacon of Integrity, is the senior payroll representative in Accounting. She was commended for being honest, truthful and ethical in relationships and business activities. Larocque is from Camdenton, Missouri.

“Melissa is responsible for ensuring that all employees of the organization are paid correctly each pay period,” one peer wrote. “She works extremely hard to see that issues are resolved and questions are answered in a timely manner.”

Another peer wrote: “Melissa constantly goes above and beyond the duties of a payroll representative to ensure that pay policies are applied consistently across the organization. She has a high level of integrity in her dealings with staff members, managers and senior leadership.”

Lana Singer, R.N., winner of the Beacon of Service Excellence, is a registered nurse in Lake Regional’s Emergency Department. She was commended for committing to provide excellent service to each person Lake Regional serves while building healthy relationships with fellow staff and Lake Regional guests. Singer is from Stoutland, Missouri.

“Lana exceeds every standard of our customer service commitment,” one peer wrote. “She demonstrates a can-do attitude 100 percent of the time. Her home is the Emergency Department, but she sees the whole picture and genuinely wishes to create an atmosphere of positive teamwork.”

“Lana excels at every level in her clinical field,” another peer wrote. “She lacks in no area when a patient’s quality of care is involved, and because of her example, the clinical departments are more cohesive.”

Another peer noted that Singer’s patients always have good things to say about care. “Her positive first impressions and service recovery skills are exactly what every employee should emulate,” this nominator wrote.

Patti Swanson, MLT, winner of the Beacon of Commitment to Community, is a certified medical lab technician at Lake Regional Clinic - Camdenton. She was commended for exhibiting a strong sense of duty and accountability to the public. Swanson is from Sunrise Beach, Missouri.

“Patti is very committed to serving our patients,” one peer wrote. “She treats all patients with respect and wants them to have the best experience possible.”

“When a patient complains to Patti, she goes above and beyond to make sure that the patient’s complaint is addressed and that the patient is satisfied before leaving the clinic,” another peer wrote. “She truly is all about the patient experience.”
