“We are pleased Family Nurse Practitioner Catharine Kahrig has joined Lake Regional Express Care,” said Michael Burcham, vice president of Lake Regional Physician Practices. “Our Express Care clinics are great for people seeking same-day care, especially after hours and on weekends.”
A people person, Kahrig chose a career in nursing because she wanted to help others. She said she especially likes educating her patients.
“I don’t just expect them to understand why I’m recommending a treatment,” Kahrig said. “I take the time to explain why the treatment is going to help. I want to arm them with basic medical knowledge.”
Patients do not have to be established with the clinic to visit Express Care. As a result, Kahrig does not have a history with most of her patients, so building trust is a priority.
“I always take an interest in them to make them feel comfortable,” Kahrig said, adding she likes connecting with each patient and has a special fondness for children. “I understand a crying child is crying for a reason. I enjoy helping them feel better and want to make the clinic a happy place for them.”
Kahrig earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from the same university. She has experience providing walk-in care, as well as home health care and care to hospitalized patients.
Originally from Illinois, Kahrig was drawn to the Lake of the Ozarks by friends impressed with the area. She and her family look forward to boating in the summer and relaxing in the winter.
Lake Regional Express Care has locations in Eldon, Laurie, Lebanon and Osage Beach. Conditions treated include infections, allergies, cuts, sprains and other issues that need medical attention but do not require an emergency response.
