Description of Services
Lake Regional offers a full range of diagnostic testing, including sleep studies (polysomnograms), multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), home sleep studies (HST) and maintenance of wakefulness testing (MWT).
Sleep studies are painless and non-invasive procedures. There are no needles involved; testing includes only sensors and equipment applied to the surface of the skin.
Patients spend the night in a private room at Lake Regional’s Sleep Center where their sleep patterns are monitored using state-of-the-art technology. Monitoring devices track brain waves, heart rate, oxygen levels, rapid eye movements and more. Patients may resume normal activities after the study is completed.
Studies are scored by a sleep technologist. The results are then analyzed by a sleep disorders physician and forwarded to the patient’s physician for review and discussion of treatment options, as needed.
All sleep studies are done by appointment only and are conducted seven nights a week from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Registration and Check-In
Patients scheduled for a sleep study at Lake Regional may preregister online. This allows patients to go directly to the sleep clinic without stopping at the registration desk. If you choose to register in person, you can do so at Lake Regional’s Patient Access Services office or by calling 573-348-8200.
At the point of check-in you will be asked to provide insurance cards and a valid driver’s license or photo ID for copying; sign consent forms; verify insurance information; provide your advance directive and/or living will for copying, if applicable; and make financial arrangements, if applicable. In addition, Medicare patients will be asked to complete the federally required Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire.
Lake Regional’s sleep specialists use a number of tools to diagnose sleep disorders, such as a physical exam, sleep diary, detailed patient history, sleep studies and more.
Once you are diagnosed with a sleep disorder, there are several safe and effective options for treatment, including changes to sleep habits, medications, medical devices or surgery. Your doctor will determine which option is right for you based on the results of your sleep study.
