An estimated 40 million Americans experience speech, language, or hearing disorders. Without early detection, treatment takes longer and is more expensive. Speech therapy services include assessment, treatment, and support for people of all ages. Lake Regional's Speech Therapy Department offers the evaluation of and treatment for speech, language, cognitive, voice and swallowing disorders. We employ experienced speech therapists who treat all of these areas throughout the life spectrum, from birth through senior living.

ASHA's National Outcomes Measurement System (NOMS) is a voluntary data collection system developed to illustrate the value of speech-language pathology services provided to patients with communication and swallowing disorders.  According to the most recent data, Lake Regional outperforms national benchmarks for patients who gain one or more levels of improvement on these measures. Learn more about NOMS and see how Lake Regional performs on individual measures.

Adult Services

Speech therapy services for the adult population encompass a variety of diagnoses and treatment approaches. Problems in these areas can occur for many reasons.

The goal of our therapists is to assist each patient in regaining and optimizing skills for participation in all daily activities. Commonly, speech therapists treat people who have had a stroke or an acquired brain injury.

Other neurological diseases/processes that affect these areas include Myasthenia Gravis, Multiples Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, ALS, Parkinson Disease, and dementia, among others.

Lake Regional offers speech therapy services for adults across multiple settings:

  • Acute inpatient care
  • Outpatient therapy (offered at Lake Regional, Eldon Rehab, Lake Ozark Rehab, and Laurie Rehab)
  • Home health
  • Skilled nursing

Pediatric Services

Children who receive early services are less likely to fall behind developmentally, academically, and socially.

Pediatric services cover the ages of birth to 17 years. Early intervention for speech/language impairment is essential for preventing or managing delays in communication or swallowing development that can be due to the effects of  Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, congenital or acquired brain injury, stroke, and other developmental diagnoses.

Lake Regional’s speech therapy department offers procedures and treatments that are individualized to meet the needs of each child. Our therapists also work to assist parents/caregivers in transitioning school-based services when appropriate.
