Quality Care: 2016 Community Report provides an in-depth look at how well Lake Regional is meeting various quality standards. The report includes a section on quality improvement, with a graph depicting Lake Regional’s impressive progress in treating heart attack, pneumonia and heart failure and limiting surgical infections. Another section looks at various recognitions Lake Regional has earned for high-quality care and still another section provides data on Lake Regional’s exceptionally low infection rates.
As this report explains, we continuously monitor the care we provide, and even when we satisfy standards, we look for ways to do things better. Quality Care, Quality Outcomes
At Lake Regional Health System, quality is defined as a comprehensive look at all aspects of a patient's experience. Lake Regional is a three-time recipient of the Missouri Quality Award (2013, 2010 and 2003). This prestigious honor, given by the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, is the official state recognition program for excellence in organizational performance and applying quality principles.
Lake Regional's quality program focuses on patient satisfaction and clinical excellence with an emphasis on:
- Patient care outcomes
- Compliance with evidence-based protocols for care
- Compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements

Throughout the past ten years, Lake Regional’s surgical site infection rate has remained at or below 1.3 percent. According to the National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Report, the expected rate for similar size hospitals is 2.76 percent for the same surgical categories.
In 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recognized Lake Regional Health System for its extremely low rates of an infection common in critically and chronically ill patients. From July 2011 to December 2014, zero central line-associated bloodstream infections occurred in Lake Regional’s intensive care unit and from January 2013 to present, zero central line-associated bloodstream infections occurred on our Med-Surg Nursing Units. Hospital Compare, offered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, allows users to search for a hospital by ZIP code to see how it compares to both state and national averages in patient experience. Information on the site is compiled using a national survey called HCAHPS, Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems. HCAHPS is the first national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients' perspectives of hospital care.
