DOT and Non-DOT Consortiums

Lake Regional Occupational Medicine offers random DOT and non-DOT services for those who are required to participate in a random drug-testing pool. Employers and employees must comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations if they meet one of the following criteria.

  • Hold a CDL or commercial driver’s license issued by Mexico or Canada
  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in any state
  • A vehicle is classified as a CMV if one or more of the following conditions exist.
  • The vehicle has a gross combination or gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more
  • The vehicle has the capacity to carry 16 or more passengers, including the driver
  • The vehicle transports hazardous materials and is required to be placarded

Our Services

As a consortium member, you will have full access to our knowledgeable staff. We stay up-to-date on federal regulations and will help you comply with drug and alcohol testing requirements. Our services include:

  • Certification as required by federal regulations
  • Pre-employment testing

  • Quarterly and annual statistical reporting

How the Consortiums Work

Employees at companies contracted with Lake Regional Occupational Medicine are entered into a pool of other CDL or CMV licensees. A computer randomly chooses which employees must report to Lake Regional Occupational Medicine for drug and/or alcohol testing.

After all four consortium pools have been collected for the year, the totals will equal 50 percent of the sample pool for DOT drug testing and 10 percent for DOT alcohol testing.

Non-DOT (Voluntary) Drug and Alcohol Testing Pools

Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing pools also are available through Lake Regional Occupational Medicine. These pools are optional and are not mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Employers often choose to enroll employees in non-DOT pools when they have a mix of both DOT and non-DOT employees.

Consortium Pricing

Annual Fee
The annual fee will be charged at the beginning of the next year at the appropriate rate listed below. Any addition of 1-10 employees in the second, third or fourth quarter will incur an additional $25 fee.

DOT Services
The prices below include the fee for the drug screen collected from the employees who are pooled. This fee will be billed the month after the designated quarter month. Employees are tested quarterly.

Breath Alcohol Testing:   1-2 employees — $25            3-4 employees — $23            >5 employees — $20
Non-DOT Services
The prices below include the fee for the drug screen collected from the employees who are pooled. This fee will be billed the month after the designated quarter month. Employees are tested quarterly.

Fees

Employees and supervisors will be charged $10 each for attending an educational video training course. Educational workbooks are $5-$10 each, depending on costs and shipping.

To participate in a Lake Regional Occupational Medicine random drug and alcohol testing consortium, print and fill out the enrollment form and fax it to 573-348-8046.

Once the enrollment form has been received, an introductory letter will be emailed or faxed to you. The letter will explain the process to help you prepare for the consortium each quarter. If applicable, file this letter as proof of your enrollment into a DOT consortium.

NOTE: Access to a secure email address (preferred) or a secure fax machine is required in order to participate in a Lake Regional Occupational Medicine consortium.

When are drivers prohibited from driving?

  • While using alcohol
  • If they have a breath alcohol concentration of 0.04 percent or greater
  • Within four hours of consuming alcohol

What if a driver's drug screen is positive?

The driver will be removed from the safety sensitive duty. He/she cannot resume the position until they: 

  • Have been evaluated by a substance abuse professional
  • Have complied with the recommended rehabilitation
  • Have a negative result on a return-to-duty drug test

Follow-up testing also is required to confirm the driver's abstinence from the substance.
