At Lake Regional, our highly skilled clinical OB staff welcome each mother and family-to-be in a warm, friendly, environment. To help ensure a healthy start for your baby, each member of our nursing staff is trained in neonatal resuscitation. We also encourage the birth coach and family members to participate in the birthing process.
Patients enjoy the convenience of staying in the same room throughout their birthing experience. Our labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum rooms all have birthing beds and are spacious with a recliner and table and chairs. They also have cable TV, a highback chair and a private bathroom with shower. Fetal monitoring and infant warmers are available for each room. Rooming in, where the newborn stays with mom, also is encouraged to help the new family get better acquainted.
Just in Case
If a Cesarean section is necessary, a labor and delivery operating room is located steps away from all patient rooms. In addition, Lake Regional enjoys an excellent working relationship with metropolitan hospital pediatric intensive care units. Should a transfer be necessary, emergency transportation by helicopter and ambulance is readily available.
Safety and Security
We strictly enforce security measures for your safety and the safety of your baby. The nursery is locked and attended at all times. The unit’s staff members wear specific uniforms for immediate identification.
Before you leave the hospital, your nurse will go over infant care and discuss safety issues for your newborn. A staff member also will assist you in completing the birth certificate and will give you an application for your baby’s Social Security number. This is important if families plan to take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit for childcare.
In addition, you will receive a book on mother and baby care to use as a reference after discharge. Other educational videos and reading materials also are available, if needed.
Your baby’s photo also is taken before discharge and will be posted to our online nursery
, with your approval. For added security, this area is password-protected.
When you return home, our caring staff will call you to ask how you and your new baby are doing. You also may call our caring, knowledgeable nursing staff at 573-348-8242 any time. They will be happy to address any problems or concerns you may have.
