For several years, John Holland's weight had contributed to a decline in his health. By the time he had double knee replacement surgery six years ago, Holland was taking blood pressure and diabetes medications and had given up activities he loved.
"We sold our lake house because I couldn't do what I wanted," says Holland, who recently completed his second term as Eldon's mayor. "I couldn't walk down to the dock to fish because I couldn't catch my breath."
After Holland's knee surgery in March 2005, he received physical therapy at Lake Regional Clinic – Eldon. Therapist Jessica Beckmann, DPT, (pictured above with Holland) helped Holland achieve exceptional results with his knees, but she didn't stop there.
"Jessica encouraged me to keep exercising after rehab," Holland says. "She helped me see how important it is to exercise so you don't have to rely on medicine or others."
With the help of Lake Regional's Cardiac Rehab staff, Holland began exercising twice daily at the clinic.
"I'm now 100 pounds lighter, and I no longer need medication," Holland says. "Thanks to the team at Lake Regional, I shaped up and feel better than ever."
